International maritime, transport and commercial law, contentious and non-contentious. That covers shipping, aviation, insurance and reinsurance (including P&I), marine casualties (collision, fire, salvage, towage, wreck, oil pollution), freight, demurrage and defence work, personal injury and fatality claims, and disaster litigation.

FAQ: Do you handle aviation accident claims?

Yes. The practice areas include aviation casualties, disaster litigation and fatality and personal injury claims. Overseas correspondent Nigel Taylor specialises in claimants' claims arising from international aviation disasters.

FAQ: How much do you charge?

Lawyers charge hourly rates that depend on seniority. The rates are set out in the Letter of Engagement and are not published. Time is billed in 6-minute units. The firm will also consider fixed fees, daily rates (particularly on casualties), fee caps, percentage fees or retainers.

FAQ: Can you quote a fixed fee?

Possibly. The firm says it can quote hourly, lump-sum or value-based fees depending on the matter, within the Law Society's rules on contingency fees. Ask for a quote suited to your case.

FAQ: How and when do I pay?

Invoices are usually monthly or at key stages of the matter. Payment is due within 30 days. Overdue amounts may carry interest at 3% above HSBC base rate. The firm may also ask for money on account in advance.
