FAQ: Can you notarize documents for use in Mainland China?

Yes. Three of our solicitors are China-Appointed Attesting Officers: Daisy Leung, Christopher Chan and Bonnie Chan. They handle documents for Mainland use, such as declarations of marital status, no criminal record, succession and company resolutions.

FAQ: What's the difference between a Notary Public and a China-Appointed Attesting Officer?

A Notary Public handles documents for international use outside Mainland China. A CAAO handles documents specifically for use in Mainland China.

FAQ: How long does an apostille take and how much is it?

Legalization by apostille at the High Court of Hong Kong takes about 2–3 working days, and the fee is HK$125 per apostille. We can arrange it for you.

FAQ: Do I need an apostille or consular legalization?

An apostille is accepted by Hague Convention member countries and cities. Non-member countries usually also require consular legalization, which we can arrange.

FAQ: How much are your legal fees for buying a property?

Fees depend on the transaction value, its complexity and any mortgage. Other costs include stamp duty, registration fees and the estate agent's commission. Please contact us for a quote.

FAQ: How long does a property purchase take in Hong Kong?

Usually about 2 to 3 months. You sign a provisional agreement and pay an initial deposit, then a formal agreement and a further deposit. Solicitors then check the title, and on completion you pay the balance and sign the assignment and mortgage.

FAQ: Can a foreigner or foreign company buy property and get a mortgage in Hong Kong?

Yes.
